Organization: Communities United
Duties:
1. Assist WU coordinators to develop long and short-term communications strategy
o Help identifying immigrant friendly organizations that would like to join our effort; which local businesses/organizations benefit from immigration.
o Help identify & promote how immigration benefits the local population & businesses.
2. Work with WU coordinators to research and develop messages that resonate with Utahns.
o Investigate the different sub-populations that we should be targeting (i.e.: religious, socio-economic, etc.
o Come up with communication tactics to identify both, the fears and supporting ideas that Utahns have about immigration.
o Analyze the ideals of anti-immigration groups (like Eagle Forum) & the anti-immigration message spread by the media in Utah and come up with strategies to challenge them.
o Come up with ways to engage community leaders from predominantly opposing groups in the Welcoming Utah Campaign. Also, engage community/political leaders from supporting parties, without influences of political interests.
3. Set up focus groups to test messaging. Work with coordinators to develop measures for the messages, and help facilitate the focus groups.
o Help develop strategies to promote meaningful interactions between local community members & immigrants.
4. Research additional resources that can be leveraged to help carry out communications strategy (i.e.: printing companies willing to make in-kind donations, etc.)
5. Assist WU coordinators to develop ways to evaluate effectiveness of communications strategy
6.General CU Communications Support
7. Work with Development Director on managing external communications
o Facebook, Twitter, Website
8. Work with Development Director on improving overall communications strategy
9. Provide assistance to Program Coordinators on program-specific communications
