KCPW public radio (88.3 and 105.3 FM) in Salt Lake City, Utah is offering two or more internships during the University of Utah’s Spring 2012 semester, January through April, 2012.
One intern will work closely with KCPW management and news staff during the 2012 Utah Legislative session. The chosen candidate(s) will be responsible for researching bills; gathering and editing sound bites via interviews and legislative pod-casts; writing short, succinct news stories using sound bites; and possibly voicing wraps or performing interviews for air. Candidates will need to be available at least two days per week. Candidates should also have available transportation, as they will work at the station’s studios at the Downtown Salt Lake City Library and remotely at the Capitol.
KCPW is also searching for an intern to assist with its daily public affairs program, CityViews. The chosen candidate will help the program’s host book guests and research topics, as well as assist with the live show each day. The candidate will need to be available two days per week (Monday to Thursday) between 8 am and noon.
Candidates should be majoring in Mass Communication with a preference for those studying Journalism. Candidates should also have completed the writing for radio class, or an equivalent. Familiarity with the state’s legislative process is preferable but not required, as is a working knowledge of Adobe Audition editing software.
